Harold Edwin Powell

Harold Edwin Powell, 91, formerly of 109 Marion Ave., died yesterday at Williamstown Commons, where he had resided since 1998. Born in North Adams on Aug. 25, 1912, son of George and Elizabeth Caldwell Powell, he attended schools there, including Drury High School. Mr. Powell was employed as a textile printer at the former Arnold Print Works' Jones Division in Adams, retiring in 1974. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 310 and the Greylock Community and North Adams Country clubs. He enjoyed fly fishing. He and his wife, the former Louise A. Rubesam, were married June 11, 1937. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Richard H. Powell of South Dennis, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Another son, David Powell, died Nov. 15, 1959. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Harold E. Powell, who died March 17, 2004, will be held at a time and date to be announced. Burial will be private for family in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society through AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements. He leaves his grandchildren, Richard H. Powell of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Elizabeth Roach of Macungie, Pa.
