Dorothy M. Kustra

Dorothy Mary (Macksey) Kustra, 82, of 24 Anthony St., Adams, died Monday evening in Berkshire Medical Center, Pittsfield after her transfer there by ambulance following a motor vehicle accident in Adams on the 14th of this month. Mrs. Kustra, the widow of Stanley F. (Mike) Kustra, was born in North Adams on August 1, 1918, the daughter of the late Joseph R. Macksey, Sr., and Nettie Biggart Macksey. She was a graduate of the former St. Joseph's Grammar School and a member of teh Drury High School Class of '36. She was a disciplined seamstress, enjoying in particular knitting. She also was an afficiando of Cross Word Puzzles and reading. Her employment history began with a stint with Sprague Electric of North Adams from 1938-42. From '42-1955, she was occupied with her family homemaking duties. In 1956 she secured a position with Waverly Products until her retirement in 1983. A communicant of St. Thomas/Notre Dame Parish and very active in its parish life, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Parish Rosary Sodality and a Girl Scout Leader with the Parish Scout Troop. Her late husband, "Mike" Kustra, whom she exchanged marriage vows in St. Francis Church on October 15, 1938, passed away on October 9, 2000. She is survived by 2 daughters, Joanne K. Filiault of Ormond Beach, FL, and Margaret L. Maroni, of Readsboro, VT, a brother, Joseph F. Macksey of Adams. A granddaughter, Jill M. Flemming of Woburn, 4 grandsons, Mark Filiault of DeLand, FL, Thomas Filiault of Oxveido, FL, Timothy Maroni of Buffalo, NY, and Michael Maroni of Round Hill, VA. 8 greatgrandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Margaret Nelson and Eleanor Nowak. A Liturgy of Christian Burial is planned for Thursday, April 19th at 10 am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Adams, with the pastor Rev. Daniel J. Boyle officiating. He will conduct a prayer service Thursday at 9:30 am in the McBride Funeral Home, 6 Liberty St., Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday, April 18th, from 4-7 pm. Mrs Kustra will be interred in Bellevue Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to the Northern Berkshire VNA/Hospice Fund or the Adams Ambulance thru the funeral home.
