Jeannette Rita Couture

Jeannette Rita Couture, 86, of 2 Forest Park Ave. died Tuesday evening at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown. Born in Adams on Dec. 5, 1917, daughter of Eli and Sylvany Lavigne Fortier, she attended Adams schools, including the former Notre Dame School. A homemaker, Mrs. Couture worked in her father's store on Pleasant Street from 1934 to 1938. She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and a member of Court Sancta Regina 904, Catholic Daughters of America and of the former Notre Dame Rosary Sodality. Her husband, Clayton L. Couture, whom she married Aug. 28, 1938, died Dec. 26, 1988. She leaves two daughters, Gloria Shackley of Chesapeake, Va., and Norma Bettis of Adams; a son, William Couture of Jonesboro, Ga., 19 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. A son, Clayton L. Couture Jr., died in 1983. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Jeannette R. Couture, who died March 23, 2004, will be Saturday, March 27, at 11 from Auge-Paciorek-Simmons Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon at St. Thomas Aquinas Church celebrated by Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of Notre Dame -St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Stanislaus Kostka. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. She also leaves a son-in-law, Alan Shackley, daughters-in-law Dorothy of Jonesboro and Carol of Adams; sisters-in-law Elizabeth Couture of Adams, and Eleanor Fortier of Cheshire; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Predeceased by brothers Raymond, Leo, Richard and Edward Fortier and by sisters Alice Powers, Roma Welch, Beatrice Lefebvre and Flora Schermerhorn.
