Mary J. Pratt

Mary J. Pratt, 83, of 130 Pine St. in South Lee, died Friday at the Laurel Lake Center. Born in Troy, N.Y., on Dec. 14, 1920, daughter of John and Dorothy Beckwith Gaylord, she was educated in schools there. She moved to Lee as a young girl. During the 1940s, she worked as a welder at GE. She later worked as a waitress at the Red Lion Inn and as a saleswoman at Katherine Meagher Dress Shop in Stockbridge. She also worked as a seamstress and as a carpenter. Her husband, Arnold K. Pratt, whom she married in 1936, died in 1972. She leaves a son, Arnold L. Pratt of Monterey; a daughter, Lona J. Martin of Lenox Dale; a brother, John J. Gaylord of Great Barrington; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Mary J. Pratt, who died March 25, 2004, will be held Friday at 11:30 at Fairmount Cemetery, with the Rev. Stanley Wooley, rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd in South Lee, officiating.
