Carol Elizabeth Battistoni, 86, of 95 Cheshire Road died Saturday at Brightview of Avon in Avon, Conn., where she had resided since December. Born in Salisbury, Vt., on Dec. 25, 1914, daughter of Jason and Blanche Newton Billings, she attended schools in Vermont and graduated from Middlebury High School. She was also a 1936 graduate of the former Henry W. Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield. She was a registered nurse for 35 years at the former Pittsfield General Hospital, now Berkshire Medical Center, retiring in 1980. Mrs. Battistoni was a communicant of St. Francis' Church and a member of its Rosary Society. She was a member of the Henry W. Bishop School of Nursing Alumni Association and the United Commercial Travelers. Her husband, Richard M. Battistoni, whom she married Aug. 23, 1936, died July 19, 1991. She leaves two sons, Richard J. Battistoni of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and Robert B. Battistoni of Avon; a daughter, Sherryl Stewart of Newington, Conn.; four sisters, Marjorie Conning of Lyons, Kan., Marsha DeGray of Middlebury, Laura Miles of Portsmouth, N.H., and Alice Cox of Weatherford, Texas; a brother, Herbert J. Billings of Ripton, Vt.; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday at 10:15 from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main St., Dalton, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis' Church in Pittsfield celebrated by the Rev. Paul Bombardier, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, West Stockbridge. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 5 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ripton Vermont Methodist Church or to the Humane Society in your area, in care of the funeral home.
