Francis J. Armstrong

Francis J. Armstrong, 81, of 9 Park Drive died Friday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Peru on Sept. 3, 1922, son of Frank and Mary Quoos Armstrong, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Armstrong was employed for 42 years in the stockroom of GE Plastics in Pittsfield, retiring in 1985. He then worked as the sexton at First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. His wife, the former Maxine Buckley, whom he married Oct. 11, 1947, died Sept. 8, 1998. He leaves a son, Peter F. Armstrong of Adams; two daughters, Faith E. Armstrong of Gallupville, N.Y., and Hope L. Armstrong of Lanesboro; a sister, Marjorie Stroehlin of Pittsfield, and a granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Francis J. Armstrong, who died April 2, 2004, will be conducted Tuesday at 11 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Lanesboro, by the Rev. Mary Schreiber. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME. Following cremation, burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Among survivors are his granddaughter, Kayla Ann Armstrong; son-in-law, John I. Smythe; daughter-in-law, Beth Armstrong, and his best friend, Scamp. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lanesboro Fire and Ambulance Fund in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
