Fernande D. Barrette

Fernande D. Barrette, 92, of Heaton Court died Sunday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield after a long battle with cancer. Born in Montreal on June 23, 1911, daughter of Origene and Laura Achim Dessault, she was educated there. She moved to New York City in 1938, and to Great Barrington 10 years later. She moved to Stockbridge in 1981. Mrs. Barrette was employed as a library clerk and statistician for 18 years by the American Institute for Economic Research in Alford, retiring in 1976. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, and a former communicant of St. Peter's Church in Great Barrington, where she had been active member of the choir. She was a former member of the Daughters of Isabella and the Thursday Morning Club. She was a volunteer server at Heaton Court and made rosaries for the missions. She enjoyed most forms of needlecraft. Her husband, Fernand Barrette, died in 1968. She leaves a son, Jean Pierre Barrette of Pittsfield, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Another son, Jean Claude Barrette, died in 1958. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Mass for Fernande D. Barrette, who died Sunday, April 4, 2004, will be celebrated today, April 6, at 11 at Our Lady of Mercy Oratory at the Marion Helpers Center by the Rev. Shaun O'Connor, MIC. There will be no calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Barrette's memory, in lieu of flowers and cards, may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Survivors include five grandchildren, Christopher "C.J." Barrette, Mark Edward Barrette, Maj. John Peter Barrette, Ann Catherine Sartorius and Mary Kate Grischow.
