Millicent E. Price Markham

Millicent E. Price Markham, 87, of Bott Hill Road, South Egremont, died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. She was a longtime local businesswoman. Born in Dublin, Ireland, on Aug. 13, 1916, daughter of Louis and Martha Mae Kelly, she graduated in 1935 from Calder High School in Liverpool, England. She immigrated to the United States in 1948, settling in the Berkshires in 1955. She and her late husband, Ira E. Markham Sr., owned and operated the former Markham's Drive-In Package Store, which they opened 30 years ago. The store closed last summer. She also had assisted her husband in the operation of the former Markham's Construction Co., and held a real estate broker's license. She enjoyed animals, and was an avid reader and follower of politics. Her first husband, Harold Briscoe Price, a British Royal Air Force pilot, died in England in 1944 during World War II. Her husband, whom she married in 1955, died in 1993. She leaves a daughter, Diane P. Curro of East Greenbush, N.Y., two grandsons and five great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mrs. Millicent E. Markham, 87, a prominent businesswoman in South Egremont for 50 years, died April 6, 2004. There will be a memorial gathering Wednesday, April 21, from 5 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. Survivors include two grandsons, Joseph S. Curro of East Greenbush, N.Y., and Randall S. Curro of Albany, N.Y., and five great-grandchildren.
