Cathalene Moritz

Cathalene Moritz, 73, of 815 Under Mountain Road and 608 North St., St. Petersburg, Fla., died Saturday at her Florida home. Born in Vinton, Iowa, on Sept. 26, 1930, daughter of the Rev. Cornelius N. Bakker and Marion Mersen Bakker, she moved to Great Barrington as a teen when her father was named pastor of First Congregational Church. She graduated from the former Barrington School for Girls and earned her associate's degree in business from Bergen Junior College in New Jersey. Mrs. Moritz was a member and former deacon of Old Parish Church and a former deacon of Suffield (Conn.) Congregational Church. She was a Cub Scout leader and a member of American Legion Post 340 Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening and traveling, and helping others. She and her husband, Paul F. Moritz, would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary June 6. They were married in First Congregational Church by her father. Besides her husband, she leaves four sons, Paul Moritz Jr. of Sheffield, Peter Moritz of Litchfield, Conn., John A. Moritz of Hillsdale, N.Y., and Mark Moritz of Lutz, Fla.; two brothers, Nickolas Moritz and Peter Moritz, both of Elmwood; a sister, Heidi Merrill of Burlington, Vt., and 11 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Cathalene Moritz, who died April 3, 2004, will be conducted Tuesday, April 13, at 11 at Old Parish Church by the Revs. Art Kaufman and Edward Duffy. The family will receive friends Monday, April 12, from 4 to 7 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME. Expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Moritz's memory may be made to Old Parish Church or to Hearts of the Father in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
