Helen Elizabeth Grover

Helen Elizabeth Grover, 90, of Kimball Farms, Lenox, formerly of 117 Dean St., died yesterday morning at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in North Adams on Sept. 28, 1913, daughter of James and Alice O'Neill Horan, she was a 1930 graduate of Drury High School and a 1934 graduate of the former North Adams State Teachers College. She had resided at Kimball Farms since 1997. A teacher, Mrs. Grover retired from the former Adams Junior High School in 1974. She also had taught in Savoy in a one-room schoolhouse, Monroe Bridge, North Adams and for 18 years in Cheshire. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, and a member of the Massachusetts Teachers and Retired Teachers associations. She enjoyed traveling, knitting and reading. Her husband, Howard James Grover Sr., whom she married Aug. 31, 1940, died April 21, 1986. She leaves a son, Edward John Grover of Mayfield, N.Y., five granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. Another son, Howard James Grover Jr., died May 1, 2001. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Helen E. Grover, 90, who died May 8, 2004, will be Tuesday, May 11, at 8:15 from DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church by the Rev. Daniel B. Brunton. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Grover is lovingly survived by her granddaughters Lisa Michaud, Michelle VanValkenburg, Melanie LeClainche, Melinda and Diane Grover, and by her adored great-granddaughter, Sara VanValkenburg. She is also survived by her devoted daughters-in-law Susan Carmell Grover and Ann Marie St. John Grover. Predeceased by her beloved son Howard James Grover Jr. on May 1, 2001.
