Lawrence G. Botto

Lawrence G. "Sonny" Botto, 60, of 24 Ventura Ave. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center of lung cancer. Born in Hinsdale on Sept. 14, 1940, son of the late Lawrence and Edna Grover Botto, he attended schools in Pittsfield. He was a graduate of Tom Brown Jr. Tracking School in Pine Barrens, N.J. He was employed by General Electric Co. for 33 years and later Lockheed Martin as an assembler, retiring in 1996. He was a volunteer for the Berkshire Search and Rescue Team and had assisted the team on several occasions. In his earlier years, he was a boxer and had won the Western Massachusetts boxing title. An avid outdoorsman and environmentalist, he enjoyed animal calling and videophotography. Mr. Botto was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. He leaves his wife, the former Leona A. Killackey, whom he married April 7, 1958; two sons, Lawrence W. Botto and William J. Botto, both of Pittsfield; two daughters, Deborah A. Krebs and Donna L. Lucido, both of Pittsfield; two sisters, Rita L. Keefe and Claire E. Botto, both of Pittsfield, and 10 grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 11:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home will be Thursday from 5 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Massachusetts Audubon Society or the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home.
