Lucia R. "Lucy" Johnson, 91, of 66 Roselyn Drive died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons. Born in Bromptonville, Quebec, Canada, on Sept. 21, 1909, one of 17 children born to Napoleon J. and Rose D. Nault Mercier, she attended schools there and emigrated to the United States at age 14 and settled in Great Barrington. She was first employed as a domestic for a family in Canaan, Conn., and later worked at the former Swift Business Machine Corp. in Great Barrington, which manufactured adding machines. She moved to Pittsfield in 1972. Mrs. Johnson was a communicant of St. Mark's Church. An accordion player, she loved to make music with family and friends. She was a member of the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center. She enjoyed walking and crocheting. Her husband, Robert E. Johnson, whom she married May 16, 1953, died Dec. 22, 1972. She leaves two daughters, Mae I. Cormier of Pittsfield and Simone Avery of Jefferson, N.C.; three sisters, Eva Thibodeau of Dalton, Simone Wolcott of Hyannis and Jeannette M. Muffett of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
