Aldo L. Galvagni

Aldo L. Galvagni, 82, of 332 Merrill Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on March 14, 1919, son of Giovanni and Rosa Galvagni Galvagni, he attended local schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1942-1945 and participated in the campaigns of Algiers-French Morocco, Tunisia, Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno. He received the American Defense Service, Bronze Star and the European Middle Eastern theater campaign ribbon. He was employed by General Electric Co. for 25 years and retired from the ordnance department in 1973. Following his retirement, he was employed part time by Pen Ro Group in Pittsfield for 15 years. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 448 of Pittsfield. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hiking, camping and walking. He leaves his wife, the former Helen N. Zaccarini, whom he married Jan. 3, 1945, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church; two sons, Thomas J. Galvagni of Pittsfield and Michael P. Galvagni of Garland, Texas; a daughter, Judith E. Galvagni of Winsted, Conn.; three brothers, Eugene E. Galvagni of Pittsfield, Bruno A. Galvagni of Pittsfield and Victor Galvagni of Gulf Port, Fla., and six grandchildren. Funeral services will take place Saturday, April 21, at 8 from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, C.S.S., pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Bencivenga Funeral Home will be Friday, April 20, from 5 to 8. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
