Mary Lorraine Hendricks, 76, of 85 Eagle St., St. Joseph's Court, died yesterday at North Adams Commons. Born in Adams on May 10, 1928, daughter of Herve and Alphonsine Chaloux St. Pierre, she attended schools in Savoy and Adams. She moved to North Adams with her family and graduated from Drury High School. During the 1960s, she was a member of the Cheshire Board of Health. She also wrote county news for the Berkshire Eagle and North Adams Transcript. She then entered the nursing profession at the former Pittsfield General Hospital. During that time, she was named the first female civil defense police chief in the region. She also worked in volunteer services at Berkshire Medical Center. Mrs. Hendricks lived in California for about 10 years, where she was employed in a nursing home. She also lived in North Carolina until she returned to North Adams in 1983. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She enjoyed knitting and sewing. Her husband, William Hendricks, is deceased. She leaves a daughter, Christine M. Martin of North Adams, two grandsons and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Mary Hendricks will be Sunday, June 27, 2004 at 7 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 21 West Main St., with the Rev. Daniel O'Hear, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours will be Sunday from 5 to 7. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Christine M. Martin and Russell Martin Jr.; two grandsons, Carlton Sorel and Wayne Sorel; and two great-grandchildren, Kassandra Sorel and Joshua Sorel; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A brother and a sister, Roland St. Pierre and Aurora Moitozo, are deceased.
