Robert Grunow

Robert William Grunow, 64, of 230 Shore Road died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 14, 1936, son of the late Otto and Jessie M. Smith Grunow, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also attended Berkshire Community College. Mr. Grunow was employed as an insurance agent for Boston Mutual Insurance Co. for several years, retiring because of ill health. He was a former member of the Civitan Club and the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriff's Association's Uniform Division, and a member of the Massachusetts Police Association and the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriff's Association. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed boating and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He leaves his wife, the former Mary E. Hein, whom he married Sept. 14, 1963; a stepson, Joseph R. Carusotto of Pittsfield; two brothers, Bruce H. Grunow of Pittsfield and Albert Grunow of Stratford, Conn.; and two grandchildren. A memorial service for Robert W. Grunow, 64, who died April 18, 2001 will be Saturday at 11 at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Peter Boehringer, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Pittsfield Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. Mr. Grunow is survived by his wife, Mary E. Grunow, stepson, Joseph R. Carusotto and his wife, Michelle Carusotto, two brothers, Bruce H. Grunow and Albert Grunow and two grandchildren, David J. and Alex J. Carusotto.
