James E. Coady Sr

James E. Coady Sr., 70., of 1230 Lovers Lane died Thursday at home after a prolonged illness. Born in New Haven, Conn., on Jan. 5, 1934, son of Thomas and Hanora Geelan Coady, he was educated in local schools. He made his home in Connecticut until moving to Washington in 2000. He served in the Army during the Korean War from June 8, 1951, until March 31, 1954, and was stationed with the 98th General Hospital Division in Germany. He was last employed by Quality Plumbing in East Haven, Conn., from 1979 to 1987. Prior to that he worked for several other plumbing companies. While in Connecticut he was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in East Haven. He was most recently a communicant of St. Mary's church in Lee. He enjoyed camping, fishing and nature and animals. His favorite sport was baseball, and he was a die-hard Red Sox fan. He leaves his wife, the former Bertha M. Krawczyk, whom he married Sept. 17, 1955. Besides his wife, other survivors include one son, James E. Coady Jr. of Wallingford, Conn.; one daughter, Cheryl A. Powers of Becket; one brother, Jeremiah C. Coady of North Haven, Conn.; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for James E. Coady Sr., who died July 9, 2004, will be Monday at 9:15 from the KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church. Following cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 2 to 5. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. Mr. Coady leaves his granddaughter, Jessica A. Powers, twin grandsons, James and Robert Coady and a great-grandson, Perrin Edwin Petell. He also leaves his son-in-law, Hugh M. Powers, and several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Coady, and six sisters, Catherine Blair, Mae and Mary Coady, Norma Povitz, Mildred Petrillo and Barbara Doyle.
