Alvah J. Rawling

Alvah J. "Peanut" Rawling, 86, of Woodstock, Ga., died Friday at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga. Born in Pittsfield on July 28, 1914, son of Tracey and Alice O'Brien Rawling, he attended Lenox schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the 106th Infantry. Mr. Rawling was employed by the former Byron Weston in Dalton for 35 years, retiring in 1977. He then worked part time at the Five Chairs restaurant in Lenox. He moved to Woodstock in 1994. His wife, the former Lillian Thompson, whom he married in 1948, died April 22, 1987. He leaves a daughter, Rhona Morawiec of Woodstock; a stepdaughter, Sheila Morse of Burbank, Calif.; a half-sister, Bertha Boos of Richmond, and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by five sisters, Madeline Herrick, Rita Mack, Agnes Provencher, Evelyn Frederick and Katherine Rawling. The funeral will be conducted Friday at 11 at St. Helena's Chapel in Lenox by the Rev. Robert Bela, vicar. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Lenox Dale. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 6 to 9 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee. Friends wishing may make donations to the Berkshire chapter of the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
