Marion E. Lukas

Marion E. Lukas, 81, of Hillside Lane, Ashley Falls, died Friday at home after a long illness. Born in Stockbridge on July 5, 1923, daughter of Steve and Ethel Squires Hopkins, she attended the former Williams High School until moving to Connecticut, where she graduated from Stratford Springs High School. She moved to Sheffield in 1987 and later to New Marlboro. Mrs. Lukas was employed for many years by Veeder-Root in Simsbury, Conn. After retiring, she worked at a church retirement home. She enjoyed antiquing. Her husband, John Lukas, whom she married Dec. 20, 1947, in Hartford, Conn., died in the fall of 1998. She leaves her niece, Kimberley Bugley and her husband, Jamie, with whom she resided; four brothers, Steve Hopkins of East Granby, Conn., and Lawrence Hopkins, John Hopkins and Russell Hopkins, all of New Marlboro; two sisters, Doris Santangello of Hartford, Conn., and June Signorilli of St. Marys, Ga. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private family service for Marion E. Lukas, who died July 9, 2004, will be today, July 13. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Rose Hill Cemetery in Rocky Hill, Conn., following cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires through FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. Mrs. Lukas especially enjoyed spending time with her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a younger brother, Douglas D. Hopkins, in 1981.
