Michael P. Sarkis Sr

Michael P. Sarkis Sr., 79, of 85 Eagle St., died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Littleton, N.H., on Nov. 17, 1924, son of John and Julia Francis Sarkis, he attended schools in Littleton and moved to North Adams and graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army First Airborne as a private first class in the battles in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He was decorated for his military service. Mr. Sarkis was employed at the former Windsor Print Works in North Adams and was last employed at the General Cable Co. in Williamstown. He was a longtime communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. His wife, the former Genevieve Morin, whom he married July 2, 1949, died May 25, 2004. He leaves two sons, Michael P. Sarkis Jr. and Steven A. Sarkis, both of North Adams and a sister, Rose Shamaly of Walpole. FUNERAL NOTICE-- Funeral services for Michael P. Sarkis Sr. will take place Monday at 1 at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with the Rev. Mr. Robert Moulton, deacon of the Parish of Notre Dame, St. Thomas and St. Stanislaus officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 11 to 1. Memorial donations are suggested for the Eileen Barrett Foundation through the funeral home. Survivors include two daughters-in-law, Anne Sarkis and Pauline Sarkis; three grandchildren, Michael Sarkis, Misty Sarkis and Tracy Sarkis Bassette, and a great-grandchild, Seth Sarkis-Handberry. He was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Edward Sarkis, who died Dec. 25, 1996, four sisters, Eva Sarkis, Mary Sarkis, Hannah Sarkis and Annie Ziter, and two brothers, John Sarkis Sr. and Joseph Sarkis.
