Mary F. Pilling

Mary F. Pilling, 89, of Pine Street died Tuesday at Timberlyn Heights Nursing Home in Great Barrington. Born in Lee on May 31, 1915, daughter of James and Bertha Decker Cahalan, she was a 1934 graduate of Lee High School. She moved to Stockbridge in 1946. Mrs. Pilling was employed at Austen Riggs Center for many years, retiring in the 1980s. She also ran the Stockbridge information booth in the early 1970s. She was a member of the Stockbridge Grange and the Holy Family League Guild. Her husband, Glenn D. "Gramp" Pilling Sr., whom she married in 1947, died in Aug. 17, 2002. She leaves three sons, Albert I. Woodworth of Sheffield, John G. Woodworth of Pittsfield and Glenn D. Pilling Jr. of South Lee; two daughters, Mary H. MacDowell of Pittsfield and Isabelle B. Soule of West Stockbridge; a brother, James Cahalan of South Lee; a sister, Patricia Messer of Pittsfield, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Another son, James E. Woodworth, died June 16, 1961, and another daughter, Janet M. Brazie, died Oct. 26, 1990. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mary F. Pilling, who died July 27, 2004, will be Saturday, July 31, at 10 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Stockbridge. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. She was predeceased by her two children James Woodworth and Janet Brazie; her brothers Edward and John, and her sisters Gertrude Kay and Isabel Bordeau.
