Gladys Barnes-Pretto

Gladys Theresa Barnes-Pretto, 81, of 46 Ventura Ave. died yesterday at home. Born in Pittsfield on July 4, 1919, daughter of Noah E. and Anna Petell Erbin, she attended local schools. A homemaker, she had worked for General Electric Co. during World War II and, at one time, at Madonna Hall in the housekeeping department. Mrs. Barnes-Pretto was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and enjoyed playing bingo. Her first husband, Charles A. Barnes Sr., died Nov. 14, 1971. Her husband, Lino Pretto, died March 30, 1989. She leaves a son, Charles A. Barnes Jr. of Pittsfield, and two sisters, Doris Spaulding of Lenox and Margaret Mazza of Pittsfield. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Mary Marguerite Kohn, interim priest associate at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Pretto is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Julie C. Barnes; three stepsons, Lino Pretto, Richard Pretto and John Pretto; a stepdaughter, Maryann Audette, and many nieces and nephews.
