Barbara Jean Person

Barbara Jean Person, 61, of 102 Park Lane, died Thursday at home. Born in Tenafly, N.J., on May 24, 1943, daughter of the late Alfred R. and Ethel K. Bartley, she graduated from West Springfield High School in 1961 and received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Connecticut at Storrs in 1965. Upon completion of her dietetic internship at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, she was a licensed registered dietitian. She was employed at The Deaconess Hospital in Boston, the former Vesper Hill School, Great Barrington Nursing Home and for many years was the nutrition consultant for the Berkshire County Head Start program. She was also a dietetic consultant for HospiceCare in the Berkshires and assisted at her husband's dental practice. Mrs. Person was active in Christ Church Episcopal in Sheffield, serving on many committees and as junior warden. She was also one of the founding members of the Sheffield Mothers Club, past president of the Sheffield Garden Club and a member of the Sheffield Zoning Board of Appeals and Wyantenuck Country Club. She was an avid gardener, skier, golfer and enjoyed traveling to various countries around the world. She and her husband, Dr. Bruce H. Person, were married Dec. 16, 1967. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Eric B. Person of Tolland, Conn. and Joshua M. Person of Quincy and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family invites everyone to join them for the funeral services on Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at 10 at St. James Episcopal Church in Great Barrington. Burial will follow at Sheffield Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, from 4 until 7 at FINNERTY AND STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington. She also leaves her daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Jamie. Barbara was the proud grandmother of William Eric Person and Olivia Megh Person of Tolland, Conn., and is also survived by a cousin Edward E. Kable of Clifford, Va., and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Nancy and John Kirner of Tacoma, Wash., and their children Katherine and Steven Kirner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to Christ Church Episcopal in Sheffield or the Great Barrington Rotary Club Student Assistance Fund, Inc. through Finnerty and Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, Mass. 01230.
