William Edward Smith

William Edward Smith, 83, of 13 Beech St. died late Monday evening at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Adams on Jan. 22, 1921, son of Norman and Mildred Williams Smith, he attended Adams schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 678th Quartermaster Company in the Asiatic-Pacific theater. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant on April 29, 1946. Mr. Smith worked at Pfizer Inc. in Adams for more than 25 years, retiring as control room operator in 1983. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Adams. He was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion, Burnette-Bednarz Post 1995 VFW, and the Berkshire Lodge of Masons. He had been an official for many years with the Adams Babe Ruth League. He and his wife, the former Victoria M. Kalisz, were married Dec. 27, 1943. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, William C. Smith of Adams; a sister, Mildred M. Smith of Adams, three grandsons and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William E. Smith will be Friday at 10 in the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. The Rev. William D. Furey will officiate. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will Friday from 9:30 until the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Adams Babe Ruth League through the funeral home. He leaves three grandsons, Joshua J. Smith of Cheshire, Eric M. Smith, stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Alaska and Zachary C. Smith of Raleigh, N.C.
