Hildreth A. Bourn

Hildreth A. Bourn, 86, of Englewood, Fla., a former resident of Lee, died March 26 at home. Born in Malden on Oct. 7, 1914, daughter of Fred and Dora Gilman Aiken, she grew up in Lee and attended local schools. She was a graduate of Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H., and Wheaton College in Norton. She also held a master's degree in education from Boston University. While at Colby and Wheaton, she was class correspondent. She moved to Englewood more than 25 years ago. Previously, she had resided in Keene, N.H., Wellesley and Wellfleet. She was a retired professor at Becker Junior College in Worcester. She owned and operated for many years the Wellfleet Salt Box Cottages in Wellfleet. Mrs. Bourn was active in the Englewood Methodist Church, including the Lydia Circle. She drove for Meals on Wheels, was a member of the New England Club, volunteered at the Sun Coast Humane Society and participated in the Great Decisions Series, all in Englewood. An amateur gourmet chef, she participated in fund-raising activities for the church. She studied and took courses in cooking. Her travels took her to China, Russia, Pakistan, India, Costa Rica, and Eastern, Central and Western Europe. Her husband, Lawton Phillips Bourn Sr., died in 1976. She leaves a son, Lawton P. Bourn Jr. of Laconia, N.H.; two daughters, Pamela Arend of Wellfleet and Hildreth Trainor of Ashland, and nine grandchildren.
