Louis P. Roviaro

Louis P. Roviaro, 85, of 18 Great Barrington Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. He was a former selectman, tax collector, assessor and a member of the town's first Planning Board. Born in West Stockbridge on Nov. 29, 1918, son of Antonio and Angela DiMarzi Roviaro, he was a 1937 graduate of the former Williams High School in Stockbridge and a 1939 graduate of Becker College. An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served from 1941 to 1945 in England, Africa and Italy, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. After the service, Mr. Roviaro joined Berkshire Frosted Foods, now S.S. Pierce, as its office manager and retired in 1978 at its general manager. He was a member of Joseph A. Libardi Jr. Post 254 American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He was a former member of the Greenock Country Club in Lee. His wife, the former Elizabeth A. Angelini, whom he married July 23, 1942, died May 2, 1994. He leaves two daughters, Susan E. Roviaro of Manhattan, Kan., and Lois R. Gennari of Housatonic; a sister, Savina McFarland of Pittsfield, and five grandchildren. Another daughter, Elaine Roviaro, died in 1982. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Louis Roviaro, who died Aug. 11, 2004, will be Friday at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Patrick's Church in West Stockbridge by the Rev. Steven F. McGuigan, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be today, Aug. 12, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to the American Red Cross in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. He leaves his beloved grandchildren Liza, Nora, Arthur and Claire Gennari and Zachary Wisdom. He also leaves his sons-in-law, Arthur Gennari Jr. and Robert Wisdom.
