Gweneth Pomeroy

Gweneth E. Pomeroy, 97, of 909 Main St. died Wednesday at Great Barrington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, where she had resided since 1997. Born in Schenectady, N.Y., on June 11, 1903, daughter of Charles and Alice Murphy Gill, she moved to Pittsfield in 1905. She graduated from Pittsfield High School. She moved to Atlantic City, N.J., in 1965. She moved back to Great Barrington in 1968 to live with family and later moved to Main Street. During World War II, she helped the local Red Cross as a driver and volunteer. Later, she was a driving instructor at the Pittsfield Driving School and then was a clerk at the former Green Stamp Redemption Center. She was a member of First Congregational Church. Her husband, Daniel Pomeroy, whom she married May 21, 1924, in Pittsfield, died in 1968. She leaves several nieces and nephews.
