Caryl Z. Kissel

Caryl Z. Kissel, 63, of Chapel Road died Friday evening at home. Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 23, 1937, daughter of Rudolph C. Zajac and the late Evelyn Barker Zajac, she attended local schools and was a 1955 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She received her master's degree from the former North Adams State College in 1966 and her doctorate from the University of Kansas in 1970. Mrs. Kissel was a teacher in the Adams and Pittsfield schools and established the original Mini School in Dalton, which taught autistic children. She was also the director of the Follow Thru Program in Pittsfield from 1970 to 1975. She retired from the school system in 1987. She and her husband, Bruno "Sam" Kissel, were married July 13, 1964. Besides her husband and father, of Pittsfield, she leaves two sons, Woodrow E. Kissel of Champlain, N.Y., and Nathan R. Kissel of Amston, Conn., and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Christopher B. Kissel. Services will be private. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Adams Free Library or to the Berkshire Humane Society through TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., Adams, MA 01220, which is in charge of arrangements.
