Frederick J. Strek

Frederick J. Strek, 92, of 52 Richmond Lane, Adams, died Wednesday at his home. Born in Adams on Sept. 29, 1912, son of John and Katherine Dachowska Strek, he attended Adams schools. Mr. Strek was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 825th Tank Destroyer Battalion in the European Theater until his honorable discharge as a sergeant in 1945. Mr. Strek worked in the finishing department of the former Dewey & Almy Chemical Co. and its successor, W.R. Grace Co. in Adams, for 30 years, until his retirement in 1977. Earlier, he worked briefly at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, and a member of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Society. His first wife, the former Blanche Banas, whom he married on July 12, 1947, died Feb. 1, 1955. His second wife, the former Janina Soha, whom he married on Oct. 7, 1961, died June 30, 1999. He leaves nieces and nephews, including Roger Strek of Cheshire. His son, Frederick Strek, died in infancy in 1948. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parishes of St. Stanislaus Kostka and Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas, Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church through the funeral home. He is survived by three nephews, John Strek of Cherry Plain, N.Y., Roger Strek of Cheshire and Walter Penczar of South Yarmouth; a niece, Faith Durant of Rowlett, Texas, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
