Willard Hubbard Mason III

Willard Hubbard Mason III, 79, of 25 Veazie St. died Friday at North Adams Commons, where he was admitted Sept. 30. Born in Williamstown on Oct. 3, 1925, son of William H. and Mildred Montague Mason Jr., he was a 1944 graduate of the former Williamstown High School. He moved to North Adams in 1968. A World War II Army veteran, he served from 1944 to 1948. Mr. Mason was employed by the Massachusetts Highway Department for 39 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and the Richard A. Ruether Post 152, American Legion, Williamstown. A former Williamstown Little League coach, he enjoyed sports and was a golfer and a bowler. His wife, the former Doris E. Francis, whom he married April 27, 1968, died Nov. 17, 1993. He leaves a sister, Claire Marshall of Ridge Springs, S.C. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Willard H. "Bill" Mason III will be Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams. The Rev. Edward A. King, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday, from 6 to 8. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Grace Trembley of North Adams; a nephew, Wayne Trembley of Lanesboro; a niece, Joyce Trembley, and a grandniece, Shannon Rose, both of North Adams, and two cousins, Ralph Mason and Raymond Mason, both of Williamstown.
