2Katherine T. Viola, 90, of 104 Christian Hill Road died Monday at Fairview Hospital. Born at 104 Christian Hill Road on Aug. 17, 1914, daughter of Dominic and Maria Zucco Zucco, she was a 1932 graduate of the former Searles High School, where she played basketball for four years and was co-captain of the team in 1932. Mrs. Viola had been employed as an administrative assistant at the Southern Berkshire Registry of Deeds for 17 years, retiring in 1984. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church. An avid reader, she also enjoyed knitting, cooking, the outdoors and gardening. Her husband, Andrew J. Viola, whom she married in May 1939 in St. Peter's Church, died July 31, 1965. She leaves two sons, Andrew J. Viola of Great Barrington and John F. Viola of South Hadley, four grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Katherine T. Viola who died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, will be held Friday, Dec. 3, at 9 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Peter's Church by the Rev. Walter Dziordz, MIC, administrator. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the St. Peter's Ramp Fund or Parish Center in care of the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. She also leaves her daughters-in-law, Zenobia Sobczak Viola and Donna Smith Viola; four grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Viola Yamada, Heather S., Brad and Katie Viola, and a great-granddaughter, Hailey Applegate. She was predeceased by two brothers, Arminio and Joseph Zucco, and a sister, Angelina McKenna.
