Francis Edward Larkin Jr

Francis Edward Larkin Jr., 71, of 25 Pine St. died Monday evening at Fairview Hospital after an apparent heart attack. Born in Great Barrington on Aug. 24, 1933, son of Francis E. Larkin Sr. and Mary Tassinari Larkin, he was a 1951 graduate of the former Searles High School. An Air Force veteran, he served in occupied Germany as an aircraft mechanic, during the Korean War. Mr. Larkin was employed as a plumber with M.T. Cavanaugh Plumbing and Heating, retiring in 1995. He first worked at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Conn., for a short time. A 51-year member of the Hope Fire Company, he rose to the rank of captain within the Fire Department. He also was a member of the Berkshire County Forest Wardens Association and James A. Modolo VFW Post 8348. He coached Little League; bowled in the Thursday night and Friday morning leagues at Cove Bowling Lanes; enjoyed NASCAR racing, and casino trips to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun; watched sports on television, and was a horse racing enthusiast. He and his wife, the former Lois A. Prentice, were married May 21, 1960, in St. Peter's Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Kevin J. Larkin of Great Barrington; a daughter, Cathleen A. Bender of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; two sisters, Patricia Roy of Great Barrington and Jean Casey of Arizona, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Francis E. Larkin Jr., who died Dec. 13, 2004, will be held tomorrow, Dec. 16, at 9 at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Peter's Church by the Rev. Shaun O'Connor, MIC. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Dec. 15, from 3 to 7 at the funeral home, 33 South St., Great Barrington. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Larkin may be made to the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad or to the Great Barrington Fire Department in care of the funeral home. He leaves his grandchildren, Ashley and Steven Larkin, and his son-in-law, Joseph D. Bender.
