Harold Walter Schuhle

Harold Walter Schuhle, 83, of 15 Profile St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Turners Falls on Nov. 14, 1921, son of Martin and Margaret Koch Schuhle, he was a 1939 graduate of Turners Falls High School. He also graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1943. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Company E 179th infantry regiment from April 16, 1943, until Nov. 22, 1945. He received the Purple Heart and other medals and ribbons. An architect, Mr. Schuhle worked for many engineering firms from 1945 until his retirement in 1983. He served on the town Planning Board. A member of the Pittsfield Camera Club at the Berkshire Museum, he enjoyed photography, sailing and collecting stamps and coins. He also enjoyed traveling, especially to Germany. He leaves his wife, the former Margaret N. Harris, whom he married on Dec. 29, 1951. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Thomas M. Schuhle of Clifton Park, N.Y.; three daughters, Luann Banta of Salt Lake City, Jean Weigel of Littleton, Colo., and Karen Williams of Williamson, N.Y., and 10 grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Memorial Service for Harold W. Schuhle, who died Dec. 22, 2004, will be Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 1 at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. The service will be conducted by his son-in-law, Robert Banta. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lanesboro Library or to Berkshire Medical Center, both in care of the funeral home. He is lovingly survived by his 10 grandchildren, with whom he enjoyed spending time. He is also survived by daughter-in-law, Jean Schuhle, and by his sons-in-law, Robert Banta, Hank Weigel and Don Williams.
