Gerard A. Nadeau

Gerard A. Nadeau, 87, of 29 Water St. died Friday evening at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on March 30, 1917, son of Edward and Philomene Blais Nadeau, he attended the former Notre Dame and C.T. Plunkett schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the infantry in the Pacific theater, including in the invasion of Saipan in the Marianas Islands and during the occupation of Japan in 1945. A rifleman, he was honorably discharged. Mr. Nadeau was employed by GE in Pittsfield, retiring in 1990. He also had worked as a night superintendent for mills 3 and 4 at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Associates until it closed in 1957; at the former Wyandotte Woolen Mills in Pittsfield; at the former Jarisch Paper Box Co. in North Adams; the former Brightwater Paper Co., where he was chief engineer of the power house until the company closed, and the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. He was a member of the American Legion Post 160 and Disabled Veterans of America. His wife, the former Jeanne L. Duprey, whom he married Jan. 7, 1950, in Notre Dame Church, died Feb. 20, 1999. He leaves three sons, Gregory Nadeau of Adams, David Nadeau of Pittsfield and Gary Nadeau of Irvine, Calif.; a sister, Rita Nadeau of Adams, and four grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Gerard A. Nadeau, 87, died Jan. 7, 2005. Following cremation, a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Notre Dame Church and burial in Bellevure Cemetery will take place at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Notre Dame-St. Thomas Discretionary Fund, P.O. Box 231, Adams, MA 01220. MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 2-8 Liberty St., is in charge of arrangements.
