Adele C. Giesen

Adele C. Giesen, 96, of the Village at Laurel Lake, died Tuesday evening at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after being stricken earlier in the day. Born in Newark, N.J., on Sept. 16, 1908, daughter of Henry and Theresa Mertz Auth, she was a 1926 graduate of Summit (N.J.) High School. She had resided in Stirling, N.J., until moving to Lee in 1999. A homemaker, Mrs. Giesen was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Stirling. An avid reader and bridge player, she enjoyed doing the crossword puzzles in The New York Times. Her husband, William J. Giesen, whom she married Oct. 22, 1938, in St. Vincent de Paul Church, died April 28, 1988. She leaves a daughter, Mary A. Cochran of Lenox; two sons, John F. Giesen of Easton, Pa., and James J. Giesen of Newtown, Conn., nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The family of Adele C. Giesen invites friends to gather with them at ROCHE FUNERAL HOME in Lenox today, Jan. 13, from 3:30 to 4:30, with praying of the holy rosary at 4. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at noon at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Stirling, N.J. Burial will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery there. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial donations to the Salvation Army or to the charity of one's choice in care of the funeral home, 120 Main St., Lenox, MA 01240. She also is survived by her loving grandchildren, Robert, Kim and Jennifer, Caleb and Jeremy, and Bill, Laura, Brian and Michael, and her beloved great-grandchildren.
