Mirdza Ozolins

Mirdza Ozolins, 89, of 20 Wood St. died Tuesday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Rigas Jurmala, Latvia, on June 16, 1915, daughter of Janis and Matilda Spalveters Gailis, she was educated in Latvian schools. She and her family immigrated to the United States in 1949, settling first in Hancock, then in North Adams in 1950. Mrs. Ozolins was employed for more than 23 years by the former Sprague Electric Co., retiring in 1979 as a supervisor in the advertising department. She was a member of the American Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church of Manchester, Conn., and the Sprague Retirees. She enjoyed music, traveling and gardening. Her husband, Karlis Adams Ozolins, whom she married in Latvia on Dec. 25, 1937, died June 28, 1994. She leaves two daughters, Astra Vilinskis of Westfield and Mara Vanags of Mason, Ohio; a son, Karlis "Chuck" Ozolins of North Adams, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Mirdza Ozolins, who died Jan. 11, 2005, will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 15, at 2 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, by the Rev Imants Kalnins, pastor of American Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will take place in Latvian Memorial Park in Elka Park, N.Y., in the spring. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Saturday from 1 until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the American Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church through the funeral home. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Judy Ozolins; grandchildren Daina Vilinskis, Linda Curran and husband Chris, Arturs Vilinskis, Liza Walsh and husband Allan, Erik Vanags and wife Lisa, Jennifer Tirrell, Julie Saie and husband Cade; four great-grandchildren, and cousins and relatives in Latvia. She was predeceased a by brother, Edgar Gailis, and son-in-law, Intis Vanags in 2003. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.
