Lawrence Fleming

Lawrence E. Fleming, 84, formerly of Connecticut Avenue, died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center. He had resided at Hillcrest Commons for six years. Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 10, 1916, son of Lawrence C. and Charlotte Mountain Fleming, he attended Dalton schools and graduated from the former Dal-ton High School. He also graduated from Iowa State. He served in the Army during World War II in the administration division of the medical unit. Mr. Fleming was employed as personnel director in the human resources department at the Massachusetts Highway Department District 1 office in Lenox for 30 years. He retired in 1980. He was a communicant of St. Francis' Church at one time, and enjoyed world traveling, cooking and the theater. His closest survivors are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, conducted by the Rev. Lee Smith, chaplain at Berkshire Medical Center. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held Thursday prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Dery Funeral Home. Mr. Fleming will be lovingly missed by Mary Lou Beaudin, and her son, James A. Beaudin Jr., as well as his sister-in-law, Mary Fleming. He was predeceased by a brother, the late Robert Fleming, who died Nov. 30, 1982, and a sister, the late Betty Carroll. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to National Cystic Fibrosis Research in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
