Raymond E. Nicholson

Raymond E. Nicholson, 92, of 56 Mountainview Terrace died Tuesday at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Concord, N.H., on Oct. 7, 1912, son of Norman and Margaret Cooper Nicholson, he was a 1936 graduate of Norwich Military College in Northfield, Vt., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant upon graduation. He spent most of his life in Springfield, moving to Lee 11 years ago. Mr. Nicholson was an area manager for New England Telephone and Telegraph in the Springfield area for many years, retiring in 1972. He was a 60-year member of the Masons and a member of the Verizon Pioneers. He enjoyed bowling and golf and, in his college years, was a ski jumper. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Wilma L. Legro, in 2004. He leaves two sons, Thomas D. Nicholson of Springfield and David M. Nicholson of Southwick; a daughter, Gail N. Schmidt of Lee; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private funeral will be held today, Jan. 21, 2005, with burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery.
