George Leonard Lacross

George Leonard Lacross, 88, formerly of 29 Mohawk Forest Boulevard, died Monday at Williamstown Commons. Born in North Adams on Jan. 24, 1917, son of Edmond and Exilda Cote Lacross, he attended local schools. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Lacross was employed for 13 years by GE in Pittsfield until his retirement in 1980. Earlier, he had worked at the former Strong-Hewat Woolen Mill in Clarksburg, then at the former Gaevert Co. in Williamstown. He was a longtime communicant of Notre Dame Church and a member of Frank R. Stiles Post 125 American Legion, Dr. George L. Curran Post 996 VFW and Disabled American Veterans. His wife, the former Rita C. Robillard, whom he married April 14, 1941, died Aug. 6, 2001. He leaves nieces and nephews, including Ann Lynn Bergeron of Williamstown. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for George L. Lacross, who died Jan. 24, 2005, will be tomorrow, Jan. 27, at 8:15 from AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 6. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis' Church or to a charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247. He also leaves a nephew, Paul Lacross of Deerfield, N.H.; two grandnieces, Dianne Vallieres of North Adams and Catherine Lacross, a student at the University of Maryland, and a nephew, Christopher Lacross, a student at Tufts University, Boston. A brother, Arthur F. Lacross, is deceased.
