Robert J. Fitch

Robert J. Fitch, 67, of 490 West Housatonic St. died Tuesday at home. Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 2, 1934, son of Major F. and Catherine M. Potash Fitch, he was a 1952 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He was an Army veteran, serving in Alaska. Mr. Fitch was employed with his brother, Major Fitch, at Fitch's Garage, which was established by their parents, for all of his working career. He retired this year. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, the North American Hunting Club, Ducks Unlimited, the National Turkey Federation, Wild Life Photo Club, the Central Berkshire Bowman, the Berkshire Museum Photo Club and the Pittsfield Sportsmen's Club. Mr. Fitch was a communicant of St. Mark's Church. A well-known outdoor photographer, he raised English pointers, and won many trophies and ribbons in field trials. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He leaves two brothers, Major V. Fitch and John F. Fitch, both of Pittsfield; two sisters, Norma M. Jarrett of Dalton and Eileen C. Maselli of Pittsfield, and his longtime companion, Shirley Ashman. Funeral services will be tomorrow, Friday, May 11, at 8;15 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Mark's Church. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, Thursday, May 10, from 4 to 7 at DWYER FUNERAL HOME. If friends desire, donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the DWYER FUNERAL HOME, in his memory.
