Catherine F. Wilson Wood

Catherine F. Wilson Wood, 94, formerly of Colonial Gardens in Pittsfield, died Wednesday at Providence Care Center in Lenox. She had most recently lived at Devonshire Estates for a short time. Born in Dalton on March 18, 1910, daughter of William A. and Lulu Brooks Fitch, she was a graduate of the former Dalton High School and the former Berkshire Business College. Mrs. Wood had been employed for eight years as an aide and housekeeper for Norman Rockwell. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Senior Citizens Club, the craft and community clubs, all in Gulfport, Fla., where she had wintered for 25 years. She also served in many other organizations, was an avid Red Sox fan, mastered the computer at age 90, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed traveling the United States and had visited all 50 states. Her first husband, Francis E. Wilson, died in 1969. Her husband, Leavitt Wood, whom she married July 9, 1970, died Oct. 3, 2003. She leaves two daughters, Arlene Martindale of Burnt Hills, N.Y., and Karen Thornton of Lenox; a sister, Ann Croughwell of Lenox; a stepdaughter, Judith Abair of Melbourne, Fla., three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Catherine Wood will be Monday at 11 at the BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Dalton. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5. Among survivors are grandchildren, Bruce Martindale and Brian Martindale of Charlton, N.Y., and Billy Thornton of Richmond, and a great-grandson, Thomas Martindale, and several nieces and nephews.
