John Ziaja

John Ziaja, 89, of 236 East Road died Tuesday afternoon at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt. Born in Adams on May 16, 1915, son of Martin and Anna Orzechowski Ziaja, he attended schools there. He served with the Army in the European theater during World War II. Mr. Ziaja had been employed as an engineer in the physical plant at Williams College in Williamstown for 26 years, until retiring 25 years ago. He was a member of Adams Post 160 American Legion and Burnette-Bednarz Post 1995 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Adams. His wife, the former Helen Mijal, whom he married March 26, 1953, died on Oct. 28, 1998. He leaves a sister, Helen Meczywor of Adams, and three brothers, Stanley Ziaja of North Adams, Edmund Ziaja of Adams and Emil Ziaja of New York state. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services will be held at a later date with burial in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. There will be no calling hours.
