Kenneth E. Shepardson

Kenneth E. Shepardson, 85, of 160 Willow Hill Road, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Lenox on Feb. 6, 1919, son of Robert and Margaret Misbel Shepardson, he was educated in Lenox schools. He served in the Army from March 30, 1942, to Oct. 18, 1945, and was discharged with the rank of sergeant. Mr. Shepardson was employed in the 1930s at the former Berkshire Hunt and Country Club, which is now the Cranwell Golf Course. Prior to his military service, he worked at the former Smith Paper Co. Following the service, he returned to the paper mill. In 1950, he started Shep's Trucking and Rubbish Removal. He also worked for the town maintaining the Lee landfill, and did tree work and excavating until 1965. He returned to the mill in 1965 and remained until retiring in the early 1980s. His wife, the former Beatrice May "Dolly" Crawford, whom he married April 12, 1947, died in 1990. He leaves a son, Timothy K. Shepardson of Lee; two brothers, Charles Bastow of Preston, Md., and Sherman Bastow of Pittsfield; six sisters, Lorraine McCredie of Saratoga, N.Y., Grace Harrison of North Fort Myers, Fla., Jane Fabrizi of Elkton, Md., Gladys Beck of Lehigh Acres, Fla., Oyma Elbourn of Rock Hall, Md., and June Reid of Warwick, Md., and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Kenneth E. Shepardson will be held Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee with the Rev. Canon Noel A. Bailey, rector, officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View in Lenox. There will be no visiting hours. The KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee is in charge of the arrangements. Friends wishing may make donations to the Lee Little League in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee 01238.
