Donald S. Kelsey

Donald S. Kelsey, 81, of Ashley Falls Road died Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital. Born in Salisbury, Conn., on Nov. 16, 1919, son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Kelsey, he grew up there and graduated from Hotchkiss School. He attended Colgate University and later moved to Sheffield. During World War II, he was captain and commanding officer of the Long Island boat base. Mr. Kelsey and his wife, the former Frances Perkins, opened the Blue Belton Inn on Route 7, where he was the innkeeper for more than 20 years. Mr. Kelsey enjoyed golfing, hunting, ballroom dancing and working around his home. He helped organize the annual antique show at the Old Parish Church. Besides his wife, whom he married Aug. 18, 1945, in North Adams, he leaves a son, Steven Kelsey of Housatonic; two daughters, Tamie Kelsey-West of Leverett and Debra Lawrence of Denver, Colo., and six grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, May 12, at the home of Steven Kelsey, 325 North Plain Road, Housatonic, from 2 to 4 p.m. Contributions in Mr. Kelsey's memory may be made to the Old Parish Church in care of FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
