Mary E. Scapin

Mary E. Scapin, 81, of 130 Tamarack Ave. died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Born in Great Barrington on June 1, 1923, daughter of Wright and Mary Touponce Seward, she graduated from the former Searles High School in 1941. Mrs. Scapin was employed by the former A&P Tea Co. for many years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. A member of the Norman Rockwell Museum, she enjoyed her Rockwell collection and started a collection for her children and their families. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, and crocheted afghans for family and friends. She was an avid New York Yankees. Her husband, Antonio "Tony" Scapin Sr., whom she married Oct. 21, 1944, died May 30, 2001. She leaves two sons, Antonio J. Scapin Jr. of East Otis, with whom she recently resided, and Paul E. Scapin Sr. of the state of Florida; seven grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mary E. Scapin, who died Feb. 1, 2005, will be held Friday at 10:30 at St. Mary's Church in Lee. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Great Barrington. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee. Friends wishing may make donations to the Lee Regional VNA, American Cancer Society or Otis Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Scapin is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Beverly Jean Scapin of East Otis and Denise Scapin of the state of Florida; seven grandchildren, Anthony Sr., Paul Jr., Jeremy Sr., Michael, Loretta, Jacob and Jarrod; two stepgrandchildren, Beverly and Kimberly; six great-grandchildren, Micaela, Jeremy Jr., Thomas, Cheyenne, Anthony Jr. and Dominic, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Bertelli, Irene Lord and Helen Leary, and a brother, William A. Seward.
