Earl J. Ferris Jr.

Earl J. Ferris Jr., 78, of East Sheffield Road died May 3 at Fairview Commons. Born in Danbury, Conn., on April 29, 1923, son of Earl L. Ferris Sr. and Regina Coyne Ferris, he attended schools there. He moved to Great Barrington in the 1970s. A veteran of World War II, he served as a sergeant with the Army Corps of Engineers. Mr. Ferris owned and trained thoroughbred racehorses throughout the country, until his retirement in 1991. He leaves a daughter, Jeanine F. Bailey of Hemet, Calif.; two sisters, Jean Derkin of Danbury, Conn., and Gloria Adrian of Scarsdale, N.Y.; a brother, Roger Ferris of Redding, Conn., and two grandsons. His sister, Maureen Martinez, predeceased him. Memorial services in Great Barrington will be announced at a later date. In Connecticut, a memorial service will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Redding, Conn., on Saturday, May 12, at 10:30 a.m.
