Edward A. Ames

Edward A. Ames, 72, of 5 Grove St. died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in North Adams on Aug. 31, 1932, son of Joseph A. and Anna Hurst Ames, he was a 1950 graduate of the former St. Joseph's High School. He moved to Adams in 1958. In 1952 he joined the Army and served overseas during the Korean War with the combat infantry. He received several medals, including the Bronze Star. Mr. Ames had been employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1996. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas. He was a member of the Frank R. Stiles Post 125 of the American Legion in North Adams. An avid bowler, he also enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. He and his wife, the former Beatrice Bara, were married Jan. 25, 1958. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael Ames of Cheshire; a brother, George Ames of North Adams; a sister, Isabelle Beaudette of North Adams, and two grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Edward A. Ames will take place Monday, Feb. 14, at 1:30 from the TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Summer St., with the Rev. Mr. Robert R. Moulton, permanent deacon of the Parishes of Notre Dame, St. Thomas and St. Stanislaus, officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. He leaves two grandchildren, Justin M. Ames of Cheshire and Angela L. Ames of North Adams. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph A. Ames and Robert W. Ames.
