Alexander Carney

Alexander Gelan Carney, 8, of 519 Kirchner Road died Friday as a result of an all-terrain vehicle accident at his home. Born in Tver, Russia, on Sept. 13, 1992, son of Dennis H. and Alyce Kendrick Carney, he was a second-grade student at Craneville School, where he had received a gold medal for the reading incentive program. He enjoyed story writing, video games, soccer, feeding wild birds, and flower and vegetable gardening. He also enjoyed swimming and boating, and had a love for machinery, snowmobiling, and riding four-wheelers and bikes. Alex was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Pittsfield and had recently made his First Communion. Besides his parents, he leaves a brother, Matthew C. Carney, at home, and his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Carney of Pittsfield. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 at St. Agnes' Church, Dalton, with the Rev. David DeSmith officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Pleasant Valley Sanctuary in care of the funeral home. Alex also leaves many cousins.
