Francis W. Bourquard

Francis W. Bourquard, 78, of 340 Laurel Street died Friday morning at Laurel Lake Center for Health and Rehabilitation. Born in Housatonic on June 15, 1926, son of Edmund and Rosa Meier Bourquard, he was a 1944 graduate of the former Searles High School in Great Barrington. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in California from 1944 to 1946. After the war, he attended American International College in Springfield, graduating in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Mr. Bourquard began his career as manager of the former Pioneer Credit Corp. in Pittsfield and Great Barrington. In 1963, he was hired as personal loan manager of North Adams Hoosac Savings Bank. He retired from the bank in 1990 as vice president, manager of consumer loans. He established the St. Mary's School bingo game in 1975 to help reduce tuition costs, directing the program until retiring in 1999. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. For numerous years, he served on the Lee Playground Committee and coached youth baseball. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, and was a Red Sox fan. He and his wife, the former Barbara Kelly, would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in June. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, William F. Bourquard of Lee and John Bourquard of Indianapolis; a daughter, Kelly Koperek of Lee; a brother, Leon Bourquard of Lenox; two sisters, Mary Bredin and Irene Penney, both of Pittsfield, and three grandchildren. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Francis W. Bourquard will be Tuesday at 9:15 from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Friends wishing may make donations to St. Mary's School Library Fund or to the Down Syndrome Resource Group of Western Massachusetts, both in care of the funeral home, 3 Main St., Lee, MA 01238. Mr. Bourquard was predeceased by a brother, Edmund Bourquard Jr., in 2000. He also leaves his grandchildren, Michael and Sean Koperek, and Jack Bourquard, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
