Ruth E. Miller

Ruth Evelyn "Tootie" Miller, 78, died yesterday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long illness. Born in North Adams on May 20, 1922, daughter of William J. and Martha Bostwick Wilson, she attended schools there until moving to Danbury, Conn., where she graduated from Danbury High School. She also attended the Salvation Army Officers College. She returned to North Adams after her marriage in 1946. Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and an active social worker in the North Adams Salvation Army. She was a longtime member of Bethel Pentecostal Church, where she taught and served as treasurer and secretary of the Sunday school. She also was a former director of its food pantry. Her husband, Raymond E. Miller Sr., whom she married Sept. 8, 1946, in Newtown, Conn., died March 18, 1985. She leaves four sons, Raymond E. Miller Jr. of North Adams, Paul W. Miller of Arizona, Mark H. Miller of North Adams, with whom she made her home, and James R. Miller of the town of Florida; five sisters, Stella Kemp and Doris Landy, both of Williamstown, Martha Withrow of Waldoboro, Maine, Mary Hewitt of North Adams and June Wilder of Point Marion, Pa.; a brother, the Rev. Floyd Wilson of Adams; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 at Bethel Pentecostal Church in North Adams by the Rev. Dennis C. Castella, pastor. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. There are no calling hours. At her request, memorial donations are suggested for her grandson Jeremy W. Miller's Education Fund through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, which is in charge of arrangements. She was predeceased by a grandson, Scott Allen Miller, in 1995 and by three brothers, the Rev. Gerald Wilson, Otis Wilson and William Wilson Jr.
