Emma Margaret Choquette

Emma Margaret Choquette, 90, of 12 Summer St. died early yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Huntington, W.Va., on Nov. 8, 1914, daughter of Cline and Marie Wilson Doss, she graduated from Barboursville (W.Va.) High School and from Morris Harvey College in Huntington. She also attended Columbia University in New York. A homemaker, Mrs. Choquette was an English teacher in the Adams school system at one time. She was the organist and choir director at First Baptist Church for 25 years, retiring several years ago. Earlier, she was the organist at the former United Methodist Church for many years. She also taught piano for many years. An accomplished artist, she displayed her works at local shows with the Adams Art Association. She also belonged to many social organizations, including the former Adams Study Club, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and reading. Her husband, Oscar R. Choquette, whom she married June 28, 1938, died Nov. 9, 2000. She leaves two sons, Charles Choquette of Adams, with whom she resided, and Laurence Choquette of Cheshire; a sister, Ruth Hanley of Merritt Island, Fla.; a brother, Robert Doss of Huntington; five grandchildren, and seven great - grandchildren. Her daughter, Martha L. Eckloff, died Jan. 23. FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Emma Choquette, who died March 12, 2005, will be conducted Wednesday, March 16, at 10 at First Baptist Church, Commercial St., Adams, by the Rev. Donald E. Gray, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 at AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Adams through the funeral home. She leaves her daughters-in-law, Brenda and Penny; grandchildren, Brian, Scott and Jonathan Choquette and James and Paul Eckloff, and her beloved nephews, Joel and John Byrne of Canada. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Louise Waldeck. She helped many local young people foster a love of music.
